Dental Therapy

Dental therapy is a key part of our modern, patient-centred approach at Albany Dental Centre. By expanding access to preventive and routine treatments, our dental therapist helps reduce waiting times while ensuring the same high standard of care our patients expect. It’s all part of our commitment to efficiency, comfort, and excellent oral health for every patient.

What is a dental therapist?

A dental therapist is a highly skilled and qualified dental care professional registered with the General Dental Council (GDC). They are trained to carry out many of the same treatments as a dentist, particularly when it comes to preventive and restorative care. This includes oral health assessments, scale and polish hygiene treatments, fillings, fissure sealants, fluoride applications, gum disease management, taking x-rays, and even extracting baby teeth. Dental therapists also play a vital role in patient education, offering personalised guidance on brushing techniques, diet, and how to protect your long-term oral health.

What are the benefits of seeing a dental therapist?

Having a dental therapist as part of our team means you may be seen more quickly for routine appointments, helping us reduce waiting times without compromising on quality. It also allows our dentists to focus on more complex or specialist treatments like implants or crowns, improving the availability of appointments across the practice.

Dental therapists spend time with patients to offer tailored oral hygiene advice, which helps prevent problems before they arise. Because therapists are often the professionals patients see most regularly, they can offer excellent continuity of care and build trusted relationships—particularly reassuring for children and nervous patients.

A collaborative approach to your care

At Albany Dental Centre, we’re proud to work as a close-knit team. Dentists, therapists, hygienists, and support staff all collaborate to deliver the best possible care at every stage of your treatment journey. Our dental therapist plays an essential role in ensuring you receive the right care at the right time, keeping your smile healthy and your visits stress-free.
